What exactly is ILUMA i ONE, in brief?
It is the ONE version of the ILUMA i family, which Philip Morris International launched in Japan in March 2024 alongside the standard and PRIME models. Unlike those two, it is a single unit in which the holder and the portable battery are built together, rather than a holder that slots into a separate charging case.
The name is often confused with ILUMA ONE, the first-generation model from 2021. They are different devices, and on this page ILUMA i ONE always means the second-generation one.
The earlier device has its own page: ILUMA ONE.
Both second-generation siblings were launched in Japan in the same month.

How does ILUMA i ONE compare with the standard ILUMA i?
The ONE model has no touch screen and no Pause Mode, because both are operated through the screen found only on the standard and PRIME versions. Instead of a button press or a tap, it relies on autostart. FlexPuff and the core induction system are the same across every model in the ILUMA i family.
In design terms, the standard model splits holder and charging case into two pieces, and the holder goes back into the case during the day to recharge. The ONE model is self-contained, so the whole unit is plugged in when the battery runs down.
See ILUMA i.

What separates ILUMA i ONE from the first-generation ILUMA ONE?
Both are one-piece designs, but ILUMA i ONE adds FlexPuff, which adjusts automatically to the user's puffing rhythm, while the first ILUMA ONE does not have it. They were launched almost three years apart, in 2021 and 2024. Neither of the two has a touch screen, so the screen cannot be used to tell them apart.
Because the outside looks so similar, the clearest clue is not appearance but FlexPuff being listed on the box or in the manual.
FlexPuff itself is explained on our ILUMA i page, and all six current models sit in the comparison table.
Both take TEREA sticks, so compatibility is no help either.

How does autostart work on ILUMA i ONE?
Autostart means the device begins heating as soon as a TEREA stick is inserted, with no button to press and no screen to tap as on the screen models. The indicator lights on the body still show the battery status and when the device is ready, taking over the job the missing screen does on other models.
Removing the screen shortens the routine to inserting a stick and waiting for the light signal, which suits people who prefer simplicity over screen controls.
The general ILUMA sequence is described in how to use IQOS ILUMA.
Without a screen, the lights are the only feedback the device gives.

Who is ILUMA i ONE better suited to than the other ILUMA i models?
Judging by its structure, the ONE model suits people who value carrying a single piece more than screen controls, since there is no separate charging case to take along. Anyone who wants Pause Mode or more detailed status information on a screen would look at the standard or PRIME version instead.
The main trade-off is charging: when the battery is empty, the whole unit has to be plugged in, and there is no case to top up a holder during the day.
If charging ever fails, IQOS not charging lists the official checks.
Portability versus charging flexibility is the decision in a nutshell.

Which sticks can go into ILUMA i ONE?
Only TEREA sticks, because ILUMA i ONE uses the same SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM as the other ILUMA i models. HEETS, made for the blade-based ORIGINALS family, cannot be used with it. TEREA compatibility is identical across the whole ILUMA i family, with no extra restriction that applies only to the ONE version.
How a TEREA stick is built, with its sealed metal element, is covered on what TEREA is.
The reason HEETS will not work is explained in HEETS vs TEREA.
Nothing about the one-piece design changes which sticks fit, because the heating system inside is identical to the other ILUMA i versions.

How can ILUMA i ONE be recognised at a glance?
The clearest signs are the absence of a touch screen on the front and a single body with no separate charging case. The standard and PRIME models have both a screen and a separate case. So a screenless one-piece device from the ILUMA i family can be identified as the ONE model with confidence.
The table below sets both ONE models against the screen models so the differences are visible in one place.
Readers in Thailand should note that official travel advice treats possession of any heat-not-burn device there as illegal; see IQOS in Thailand.
The screen sits on the front of the screen models, so a quick look is enough.

Is ILUMA i ONE part of any special design editions?
Yes, at least once. An IQOS UK article on the REMIX limited edition for summer 2026 lists an ILUMA i ONE REMIX alongside the ILUMA i PRIME and ILUMA i designs, and confirms that the technology and features are the same as the standard ILUMA i range. Special editions change the look only, not the device.
Other special designs, such as the Seletti edition, were announced only for the screen models, according to the official pages we checked.
The full list is on IQOS limited editions.
For daily use, a REMIX version behaves exactly like the standard ILUMA i ONE described above, including autostart and FlexPuff.
