What are TEREA sticks?
TEREA sticks are heated tobacco sticks made by Philip Morris International for the IQOS ILUMA range. Instead of being burned, the tobacco is heated. IQOS UK explains that each stick has a sealed metal element inside, and the ILUMA device warms that element by induction rather than with a blade.
PMI's 2025 annual report lists TEREA among several heated tobacco stick names, alongside HEETS, SENTIA, DELIA and BLENDS. Names and line-ups vary from market to market.
The metal element is sealed inside the tobacco plug, so users do not handle it directly; it is disposed of with the used stick.

Which devices can use TEREA sticks?
Only the ILUMA family: ILUMA PRIME, ILUMA and ILUMA ONE from 2021, and ILUMA i PRIME, ILUMA i and ILUMA i ONE from 2024. Older IQOS models heat the stick with a blade, and IQOS support pages warn against using TEREA in bladed devices because it may damage them.
Model-by-model details are in the devices section, including ILUMA i and ILUMA ONE.
IQOS calls the sticks for ILUMA SMARTCORE STICKS. TEREA is the most widely listed name, while SENTIA, DELIA and LEVIA appear in certain markets.
Each of those names is limited to particular markets, which is why TEREA is the name most English readers meet first.

How is TEREA different from HEETS?
The difference is the heating method. HEETS are built for blade devices, where a heating blade goes into the tobacco. TEREA carry their own metal element for induction heating. The two stick types look similar but are designed for different device families and are not interchangeable.
A full comparison, including why a clean device matters for blade models, is on HEETS vs TEREA.
Because TEREA brings its own heating element, the ILUMA device itself has nothing that touches the tobacco.

How many TEREA sticks are in a pack?
IQOS UK describes a standard pack as 20 sticks, and a bundle of 10 packs as 200 sticks. These are the counts published by the manufacturer for the UK; other markets follow the same 20-stick pack as far as we could verify, but local packaging rules can differ.
We only publish counts that appear on official pages, so we do not list other pack sizes.
Pack counts matter mostly to people comparing markets; the number of sticks does not change how any device works.
Readers comparing packaging abroad will find that health warnings and pack designs follow each country's own labelling law, so two packs of the same variant can look quite different.

Why do TEREA flavour names differ between countries?
Each market has its own line-up. Japan uses descriptive names such as Menthol, Black Menthol or Oasis Pearl, while the UK mainly uses colour names such as Blue, Green and Turquoise. The same name does not always mean the same stick in every country.
Our TEREA flavours explained page shows how to read the names in both markets.
Travellers who see an unfamiliar name should look it up on the official site of the country where it appeared, not on a site from a different market.

What does the word Pearl mean on a TEREA pack?
Pearl marks sticks with a small flavour capsule inside. Official pages describe squeezing the capsule to release an extra flavour during use. IQOS UK notes that Pearl variants are not available in Northern Ireland because of rules on characterising flavours.
Japan and the UK each list their own Pearl variants; the flavours page names them.
A Pearl stick works in every ILUMA device; the capsule is part of the stick, not a device feature.

Are TEREA sticks allowed in Thailand?
No. Thailand bans the import of e-cigarettes and regulators apply that ban to heated tobacco products, while the UK government's travel advice says possessing heat-not-burn devices is illegal. Sticks are part of the same product category, so they are not a lawful exception.
See TEREA in Thailand for the stick-specific legal position.
Official advice treats the category as a whole, so a TEREA stick is not treated differently from the device it is made for.
This applies equally to residents and to short-term visitors.

How do we check TEREA information?
We use the manufacturer's own country pages, mainly IQOS UK and IQOS Japan, and PMI's reports. Line-ups change, so each page shows the date of our last check. We describe flavours only in the manufacturer's words and do not rank them by taste.
Other English pages are listed on the English home page.
If you notice a name on this page that no longer appears on the official site, the line-up has probably changed since our last check.
