What counts as a TEREA menthol stick?

A TEREA menthol stick is one the manufacturer describes as built around menthol coolness. Some variants are cool and nothing else, some add a fruit or herbal note, and some carry a separate flavour capsule and form the Pearl group. All of them remain heated tobacco sticks for the ILUMA family, like any other TEREA.

We sort variants by the maker's descriptions because each person senses coolness differently, and personal rankings cannot be checked.

The overall naming system, including non-menthol sticks, is on TEREA flavours explained.

We quote only the official descriptions, and we avoid words such as best or strongest unless the manufacturer itself uses them in its wording.

How many capsule-free menthol variants does Japan list?

The IQOS Japan flavour list shows 13 menthol variants without a capsule. Two are plain, Menthol and Mint. Five add a fruit or herbal note: Purple, Yellow, Tropical, Bright and Fusion Menthol. Six start with Black: Black Menthol plus Black Purple, Black Yellow, Black Fuchsia, Black Ruby and Black Sunshine Menthol.

There are also seven Pearl variants, which have their own page at TEREA Pearl.

This list was checked on 27 September 2026. Japan changes its line-up often; more market context is on TEREA in Japan.

Pearl variants are counted separately so the capsule-free total stays clear.

How does plain TEREA menthol differ from fruit menthol?

The plain pair is described simply: Menthol as strong menthol with peppermint, Mint as a balanced mint coolness. The fruit and herb group adds a second note, with blueberry in Purple Menthol, citrus and herbs in Yellow Menthol, mango in Tropical Menthol, pear in Bright Menthol, and lavender with pear in Fusion Menthol.

The Japanese Mint variant has a dedicated explainer at TEREA Mint.

Purple is a name that covers more than one variant, which is untangled on TEREA Purple.

Each of these descriptions comes from IQOS Japan's own flavour pages, checked on the same date as the rest of this list.

Are the Black TEREA menthol variants cooler than the rest?

In IQOS Japan's wording, variants beginning with Black are strongly cooling menthols. Black Menthol pairs strong coolness with a faint green fruit note, Black Purple Menthol adds blueberry, and Black Ruby Menthol adds raspberry with floral notes. In these names, Black signals the level of cooling.

Cooling level is a comparative description from the manufacturer; no measured figure is published, so we give no numeric score.

The black-and-green pack family is explained further on TEREA Black Green.

Of the six Black names, Black Fuchsia Menthol is described with peach and Black Sunshine Menthol with orange blossom.

What names does the UK give its menthol TEREA?

IQOS UK relies mainly on colour names. Blue is described as deep menthol with peppermint, Green as balanced cooling with green mint, Turquoise as a fresh citrus coolness, and Mauve Wave as menthol with dark forest fruits. Alongside these, the UK lists six Pearl variants that carry capsules.

The UK Blue and Japan's Menthol read alike in description but carry different pack names.

Where Blue sits on the UK intensity scale is covered on TEREA Blue, and the European picture on TEREA in Europe.

Colour names are market labels, so matching them across countries needs care.

How can a pack name tell you which kind of menthol it is?

Check three clues. Menthol or Mint in the name marks the cooling group. Black at the front marks the strong-cooling group in the Japanese range. Pearl at the end means there is a capsule. UK colour names need the description alongside them, since a colour on its own does not reveal the group directly.

Label names change from country to country; see TEREA Malaysia and TEREA Indonesia for examples.

For the non-cooling side of the range, read TEREA Regular.

None of these clues rates quality; they only identify the group a stick belongs to, based on how the manufacturer names it.

How does capsule-free menthol compare with Pearl?

Capsule-free menthol gives the same aroma and coolness throughout the heating cycle. Pearl adds a capsule that the user squeezes to release an extra note partway through. Both sit in the menthol category, but Pearl involves one more step and a flavour that changes at the moment the capsule breaks.

Both Japanese and UK capsule variants, with the note each releases, are listed on the Pearl page.

For a steady taste across one stick, the rhythm tips on how to use TEREA sticks apply to both groups.

Pearl is the only menthol group where the note changes within one stick.

Does menthol TEREA need a particular device?

No. Every menthol TEREA works only in ILUMA and ILUMA i devices, exactly like other TEREA sticks. The coolness comes from what is inside the stick, not from the device, so no model is designed specifically for menthol. Blade devices cannot take TEREA of any flavour.

Compatible models include ILUMA i and ILUMA ONE; the full table is on IQOS stick types.

Official advice treats every flavour the same in Thailand: heated tobacco sticks are not permitted there.

Menthol variants do not change anything about that position, and no flavour is treated as an exception.
