What makes a TEREA Pearl stick different from standard TEREA?
A Pearl stick contains a small flavour capsule. With standard TEREA the aroma stays the same for the whole session, but with Pearl the user chooses when to break the capsule. Once it breaks, the note named for that variant blends into the menthol. IQOS UK calls the capsule a pearl or flavour capsule.
Pearl is both the name of the part and the name of the group, not a single flavour. The word before Pearl, such as Oasis or Sun, tells you what the capsule holds.
The stick's basic construction is covered on what is TEREA.
Standard variants have no such part.

How does the capsule in a Pearl stick release its flavour?
IQOS Japan explains that squeezing the capsule until it breaks releases the variant's note into the menthol coolness. IQOS UK describes the same step as on click, meaning pressing until the capsule cracks. Before squeezing you get the stick's base character; afterwards the added note joins it.
Squeezing is an extra step on top of normal use; everything else, from inserting the stick to the end of the cycle, stays the same.
See how to use TEREA sticks. We do not say when in the cycle to squeeze, because the manufacturer's material does not specify it.

Which Pearl variant came first, and when?
A Philip Morris Japan press release dated 12 January 2023 names TEREA Oasis Pearl as the first capsule product in the TEREA range. It went on the market in Japan from 6 February 2023 and was classed as a flavoured menthol. Every other Pearl variant followed after that first release.
Japan is one of the markets where new TEREA variants appear most often.
That context is covered on TEREA in Japan, and the ILUMA generations that use these sticks are on ILUMA i.
The launch date and category come directly from the press release linked in the sources.

What does Oasis Pearl release, and why is it sometimes called peach?
IQOS Japan describes Oasis Pearl as releasing an intense passion fruit note into the menthol when the capsule is squeezed. Some other websites call it peach, which does not match the current official page. In the official Japanese list, peach belongs to Black Fuchsia Menthol, a variant with no capsule at all.
This mix-up is exactly why we quote official pages only. Descriptions elsewhere can be out of date or swapped between variants.
When sources disagree, the official page for that country wins. Japan's capsule-free variants are grouped on TEREA menthol.
A peach note in the official list does not mean a capsule.

How do Sun Pearl and Shine Pearl differ?
According to the current IQOS Japan pages, Sun Pearl releases fresh watermelon into the menthol when squeezed, while Shine Pearl releases muscat grape. Both work on the same capsule principle and differ only in what the capsule holds. Older material sometimes calls Sun Pearl strawberry, a note now given to Blossom Pearl.
So within the Pearl group, always read the word in front of Pearl. Similar-sounding names do not mean similar notes.
The same caution applies to colour names elsewhere, for example TEREA Purple, where one word can cover several variants.
Names are chosen per market and do not signal related notes.

Which Pearl variants does IQOS Japan list?
The IQOS Japan flavour list shows seven Pearl variants: Oasis Pearl with passion fruit, Sun Pearl with watermelon, Shine Pearl with muscat grape, Blossom Pearl with strawberry and herbs, Velvet Pearl with blueberry, Stellar Pearl with lemon, and Riviera Pearl with raspberry and floral notes.
This list reflects the page as we checked it on 27 September 2026. Japan's line-up changes with each release round, and we update the list when the official page does.
Korea has its own line-up; see TEREA in Korea.
Descriptions are summarised from the official pages, not tasted.

Which Pearl variants does IQOS UK list?
The IQOS UK flavour page shows six Pearl variants: Riviera Pearl with raspberry and floral notes, Twilight Pearl with blueberry and menthol, Starling Pearl with basil and strawberry, Provence Pearl with grape and menthol, Amelia Pearl with watermelon, and Abora Pearl with green apple and menthol.
Riviera Pearl is the only name that appears on both the Japanese and UK lists. The rest are market-specific.
IQOS UK notes that Pearl variants are not available in Northern Ireland because of rules on characterising flavours. For the wider region, see TEREA in Europe.

Which devices accept TEREA Pearl sticks?
Pearl sticks are still TEREA, so they work only in the ILUMA and ILUMA i families. The capsule does not change the heating system at all. Blade devices such as IQOS 3 DUO cannot take TEREA, and the manufacturer warns that trying may damage the device, whether or not the stick has a capsule.
Every stick type and its matching devices are in one table on IQOS stick types.
Capsule or not, official advice says heated tobacco sticks may not be brought into or used in Thailand; see TEREA under Thai law.
The capsule changes nothing about the rules.
